Pete writes about the Commonwealth Judo event:
The Club had a very successful Commonwealth Games event, with the event being spread over five days to accommodate the various categories, the Club were involved on two of them, with the Masters event on the Friday, and the pre-Cadet category on the Saturday.

The Club had three of their Masters Squad involved in the Masters category, and all three medalled. Dean Douglas had a great day with four contests, and four wins at -90kgs to take Gold, and a Commonwealth title, improving on his 2012 Silver. Chris Andrews competing at -73kgs started with a bye, then had three straight wins to also take Gold, repeating his first place last achieved in 2012. Martyn Davies fought at -81kgs, had a very notable win against Rich Brown, but lost in the Gold medal contest to finish with Silver.

On the Saturday, Callum Woodham competed at -34kgs and recorded an excellent victory against his South African opponent to take a Bronze Medal, a good performance from Callum, who works hard at his Judo.

Also competing in the Masters event were two Players who have represented Gloucestershire over the years through the various age groups, mainly with the old Gloucester YMCA Judo Club. Martin Shotbolt is still in the County training with Bradley Stoke took a Gold at -81kgs, and Dave Bostock Smith who now lives in Durham competed at -90kgs also took a Gold.

As I say, a very notable day for the Dowty Club.
