Community and Accessibility

More Than Medals

While Dowty Judo Club is proud of its competitive record, the club has never been only about elite performance.

We are a non-profit club run entirely by volunteers. Our aim has always been to keep membership accessible and affordable, so that cost is not a barrier to participation. The club exists for development and community benefit rather than commercial gain.

We currently have more than sixty members, including strong juniors coming through, adult recreational members, veterans who continue to train and complete beginners taking their first steps on the mat.

Judo for all stages of life

For many people, judo is about much more than competition. It offers:

  • Structure
  • Respect
  • Resilience
  • Belonging
  • Confidence

Over the years, the club has supported hundreds of young people during important stages of their development. Some have gone on to national success. Others have simply gained confidence and discipline that has stayed with them for life.

The dojo has served children, families, employees and retirees alike. It is inclusive, intergenerational and rooted in community.
